It's taken a lot longer than I'd hoped, but Oak Aged Vodka Cask Two is finally here. I can't believe that it was well over a year ago that I found the dark rum cask and filled it with a superb quality vodka and left it to rest and gently mature, hoping for the best!
Luckily the best is what I got, Cask Two is very soft and delicate, there is a hint of cinnamon and cake fruit, actually a bit reminiscent of Christmas cake. There is no burn and unlike any other vodka there is a nice soft, fairly long finish. The Cask that the vodka relaxed in for a year was European Oak (Quercus Robur) and it's this that asserts itself in the characteristics of the vodka, the fruitiness and full bodiedness of the vodka are the same as you would fine in Sherry casked whiskies and rums, however, the age of the cask, and the length of time that the vodka snoozed in the cask means that the cask has not overpowered the vodka and all that flavour and body is balanced by the power and crispness of the vodka.

Unfortunately we have now run out of Oak Aged Vodka Cask Two.
Drink it neat, at room temperature and the softness and spiciness shine through. Drink it chilled and the vodka dryness and crispness assert themselves. Mix it with something delicate, sparkling white wine was one suggestion, or sparkling cold water, and the flavours will soften further but the softness of the alcohol will come to the front and make any drink very easy to overdo!
I have Carolicious in my hip flask and on the golf course and it's a welcome warmer when the climate isn't so friendly.
